The National Visa Center is Experiencing Delays During COVID-19 Outbreak


The National Visa Center (NVC) has confirmed that it has temporarily reduced its staff due to the Coronavirus Pandemic. This in turn, has slowed down the processing time of pending immigration applications.


NVC is part of the Department of State. After the U.S Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) approved an immigrant visa petition, USCIS for

wards that petition to the NVC for pre-processing at the correct time. Due to the Covid-19 outbreak the NVC announced that they are no longer replying to routine messages submitted through their website on or before March 27, 2020. The Agency explained that they would only be replying to inquiries that involve an urgent medical or humanitarian situation. The Agency will also be replying to messages to provide the agency with a necessary update on a case that is still pending.


NVC is still open and continues to process cases at this time. If you are unable to resolve an issue with a pending case through the NVC website and portal, you are encouraged to call the agency during their regular business hours for help.
